Planning
At Tom Thumb, we involve our clients in the planning process to ensure the best possible landscape plan in the present and the distant future. One key consideration is what your plantings will be like at maturation, which we accommodate in our drawings. Here are some additional considerations for your review:
Inventory: What is the present condition of elements on the property, your wants and needs list, and the assets and liabilities of the property such as wet areas, strong winds, hot sun, views to preserve, and views to hide.
Useage: Where are you in your life cycle? Does the plan need to accommodate children, or is it to be a quiet oasis for reflection? What is your your current ability to fund and maintain a landscape project? Can you picture yourself deadheading multitudes of blooms, or is a low-to-no maintenance plan better suited to your reality?
List of Changes/New Elements: When we combine the useage analysis with the existing inventory, we will together have created a list of “wants” such as a patio, front beds, sprinkler system and water feature. We will also likely have a “future phase” list of wants that aren’t in your current budget. It is important to plan around future phases to ensure a harmonious overall plan that you can “grow into.”
