Q: Can I do my own garden plan or irrigation plan or should I hire a professional?
A: Hire a professional to work with you on your garden design. They will let you know what plants will grow in particular zones, what plants can take shade or sun, etc. The same thing can be said for your sprinkler system. The professional has the background and experience on designing the right landscaping for your lawn. Sprinkler systems are designed to conserve water so it is on the lawn and not watering the neighbors lawn, the street, drive way or sidewalk. Also the professional knows how to design with equal amounts of water throughout the entire lawn area.

Q: When is the best time to water my lawn?
A: The best time to water your lawn is early morning, not before 3 am, because you have a chance to catch a fungus when it is colder outside and when it is earlier than 3 am. This is also the best time so your lawn has time to dry up a bit and that will help with growth.

Q: When can I cutback my leaves on my bulbs?
A: The best time to do pruning is early spring and late fall and you won’t stress out any of the plants or trees.
Top
Q: Can I fertilize my lawn at the same time that I seed?
A: Yes, you can fertilize your lawn when you are putting down seed as long as the fertilizer is a starter fertilizer with no weed control. Weed control will stop the germination of seed instantly and you will have to start over.

Q: When is the best time to transplant trees and shrubs?
A: The spring and fall are the best time to transplant. Not in the hot months they will stress the trees and shrubs too much. Remember whenever transplanting a tree or shrub, water is what you need the most of.

Q: Should I have a sprinkler system for new sod?
A: New sod needs to be watered at least four times a day for the first 2 1/2 half weeks to establish a good root system. Then it may be cut back. Remember to ask your contractor what it can be cut back too.

Q: Why do I need a sprinkler system installed or maintained?
A: It is a better solution compared to going outside every 15 minutes to move the hose to water another area of your lawn. This takes a lot of time, which everyone seems to be short of in today’s world, and to get it watered four times a day is a lot of work. With a sprinkler system you can program the timer, walk away or even go on vacation and not worry about your new sod. Maintaining your sprinkler system can be confusing but a service man is your insurance that it will be working correctly.

Q: How do I know what system is best for me?
A: Leave that up to the professional. They have tried all of the brands out on the market and want to give you the best with the best warranty. So through a trial they will give you the best because the product is the best for the warranty. The landscaper knows that having to go back for warranty work because of a faulty product makes the company look bad.

Q: How much will a system cost?
A: The cost depends on many things such as the size of the yard being watered, budget, trees and shrubs, etc. But typically a system can range between $3,000 to $5,500. Please contact a professional for a exact quote for your lawn.
